The
Situation:
Youre
losing your vision, or are blind; you have family members or friends
who are visually impaired and need assistance being independent
with their personal finances.
There
are services, aids, and tools to help you and them:

(Who you gonna call or click

DHS,
Services for the Blind Division
501-682-5463
DHS
takes referrals and offer rehabilitation training in the home,
and for jobs. My Father, Joe Briscoe, has macular degeneration.
A Services for the Blind representative came to his home, provided
closed circuit tv and helped him learn to write his checks with
their aids. Their objective is to help people live successfully
independently.
Lions
World Services for the Blind

I
used to teach in TDL, or techniques of daily living. I taught
cooking and enjoyed working with the people and at the Lions
amazing adult training center.
They
shared raised lined checks, templates for writing checks, and
talking calculators. Software spreadsheet programs like excel
were also recommended.
National
Federation of the Blind

Diebold
has made a new ATM that is speech accessible. The National Federation
for the Blind unveiled it at their recent national convention.
The testing has been positive and several banks have ordered the
new machines.
They
list several aids and tools on their web site.
