Combining technology, entertainment, and design…

 

            Where does Bill Gates go to be inspired?  Where does comedian Sinbad go to get energized?  They attend and participate in TED Conferences. 

What happens when bright, creative minds get together to share and motivate? New products and services are introduced.  New magazines are envisioned and become reality. 

Richard Saul Wurman observed that three communications-driven businesses were evolving together.  He began TED conferences in 1984.  TED stands for three subject areas, Technology, Entertainment, and Design. I think the T should also stand for Trends, because from researching these conferences, they involve the trendsetters.

The twelfth TED conference will be held this February 20-23 in Monterey, CA.  It will be on design.  Go to www.ted.com to register or learn more about the conference.

Several of the previous conferences have CD ROMs available that showcase ¾ of the presenters on video.   

 

In this information age, how do we select and convert the information so it will be understandable and useful to us?  Information isn’t power until we can put it to use.  A single edition book, Understanding, was published in 2000 as America’s Annual Report.  It visually helps us understand how our society works and we work in it.  The passion of the authors is to make the complex clear, to design understanding and to freeze visually the conversations that go between questions and answers.
