Required Text: Personal Finance by Jeff Madura, Addison Wesley Publishers, ISBN 0-201-70364-5. Bundle of workbook and CD ROM is optional.

Class Procedures: Attendance is expected at all regularly scheduled classes.

Catalog Description: Consumer problems related to management of family resources and the role of Family and Consumer Sciences in helping families manage personal finance.

Grading:

Exams: Three 100 point exams will be given over the chapters. No make-up exams. The final exam will be comprehensive and 150 points.

Chapter Questions: total of 130; On the dates one chapter is assigned, do ALL the questions at the end of the chapter. One the dates when there are two chapters assigned; answer every other even question (beginning with #2) of the first chapter, and every other odd question (beginning with #1) of the 2nd chapter. You do not have to write the question, just your answer. These do not have to be typed. A total of 10 points is possible for each class period on your questions.

Homework: total of 50; resources, goals, ways to save, music, and web sites
10 Point Projects: for a total of 50; bring 2 at first exam, 2 at 2nd exam, and 1 at 3rd exam.

Stock Project: (40) Select and track stock portfolio for 4 weeks at www.fantasystockmarket.com.

Reports: Oral presentation due on a topic (50) selected from a list at the beginning of the semester. Report to be submitted in typed form the evening of the presentation. Dates will be assigned according to topic. Another presentation is due on an individual (20) selected to share what their example teaches.

Late Homework: If not turned in on the due date, accepted next class only for credit.

Academic dishonesty/plagiarism will not be tolerated.
