October is the month that the Financial Planning Association works with their members national wide to support Financial Planning Week annually. The purpose is to help Americans discover the value of financial planning.
Events such as speeches and panels, seminars and workshops, radio and television call-ins are conducted to assist the public with answers and information related to their personal finances. A financial planning website at www.FPAnet.org includes online personal finance brochures, worksheets, how-to guides, articles, a personal finance blog, audiocasts, videos and webinars on a variety of topics. Topics include budgeting, saving for retirement, repairing credit, and much more. This website is available year round.
Certified Financial Planners and Registered Investment Advisors, who are members of a local FPA chapter members volunteer their time to participate. They are not there to solicit their services. In fact, it is their duty is to refer you to FPA PlannerSearch® online that connects consumers with financial planners in their area. Search options include free consultations, how planners charge, planner specialties, asset and income minimums, location, and last name.
Retire Logix is a free retirement planning application for both iPhone and Android. The app uses sliders and charts to forecast an individual’s retirement situation via an easy to use touch-screen graphical user interface.
So, what did we do here in Arkansas this year? Members of our FPA Board, and other active members partnered with KATV, Channel 7, to host a two-hour television call in. Not only was it lively and fun, it gave us a glimpse into the pent up need and desire for good financial information. The phones were ringing constantly for two hours. We could have fielded calls all night.
